English transcription: The United Nations Development Programme has signed an agreement with the Government of India to give assistance to the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) in Chandigarh. The CSIO is intended to foster and develop India's production of scientific instruments for industry, teaching, research and other sectors as well as to train technicians and specialized personnel required for the production of scientific instruments. English transcription: French Research ship the Calypso, which sailed to New York from Toulon, for the First International Oceanographic Congress, sponsored by UNESCO, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and various other international or national organizations. This Congress, in which over 1,000 scientists from 38 countries have participated, has covered a wide variety of scientific subjects relating to oceanography. Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, to whom the Calypso belongs, and who is the Director of the Oceanographic Museum at Monaco, has created a kind of Submarine saucer, a diving device which runs on gas, and which can take two persons to a depth of 1,000 feet.
