English transcription: Literacy training for adults. Only about 3% of the adults and 8% of the children know how to read and write. The increase in the population suspasses the teaching facilities. Literacy centres provided a temporary solution to this problem.

English transcription: The National Audio-Visual Centre receives assistance from UNESCO. A new building has just been completed and was, in part, the work of Mr. Michel d'Hoop, a UNESCO expert from Belgium. The new building was entirely financed by the Government of Niger and its audio-visual material, was for the greater part, provided by UNESCO. An outdoor screen (at left) has been constructed as part of the Centre for the projection of films and filmstrips to large audiences to obtain their reaction before being distributed on a large scale.
