The reconstruction of the Abu Simbel Temples was completed on their new elevated sites in September 1968. Dr. Sarwat Okasha, Minister of Culture of the United Arab Republic, is seen here (left) with Mr. René Maheu, Director-General of UNESCO. On their right is the commemorative plaque which was unveiled during the inauguration ceremony of the reconstructed temples.
