Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property

The subseries consists of legal instruments and supporting documents exchanged with regard to the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property adopted at the 16th Session of the General Conference in Paris, 14 November 1970.

United Nations Technical Assistance Conferences

Subseries contains certified true copies of the final acts from the United Nations Technical Assistance Conferences from 1950 to 1955. Although a code was left blank (A/34/5) there are notes in the file indicating that UNESCO did not receive a copy from the fifth conference which took place in 1954. Filed in the acts are letters from the UN Legal Counsel indicating that they are transmitting certified true copies.

Représentation de la Chine à l'Unesco

Subseries consists of typescript of oral presentation of the Legal Advisor, M. Claude Lussier, before the 88th Session of the Executive Board on the matter of the Participation of China in the execution of the programme. The speech is published almost verbatim in the Summary Records of the 88th Session with only minor variations in phrasing. There are also memoranda on its transfer to Archives. The Archives staff registered these records in the series as special documents.

Agreements between IOC and organizations, companies and private individuals

Subseries consists of agreements signed between UNESCO-IOC and non-governmental organizations, universities, foundations, private companies and individuals. All UNESCO Chair agreements are filed in this sub-series. The agreements are arranged by the reference code given upon transfer to Archives, meaning that the subseries is in roughly chronological order.

Portugal - retrait

Subseries consists of photocopies of letters concerning the withdrawal of Portugal in 1971. These documents were registered with the legal instruments collection by Archives Staff as a special document.

Country files

The External Relations service of the Cabinet of the Director-General was responsible for relations with member and non-member states. Files are organized by country and mostly contain correspondence. Other possible documents attached to the correspondence include: reports, meeting documents, and cooperation agreements. The original order of the series was maintained - the files are roughly in alphabetical order as each country was assigned a number such as, for example: C.1 Afghanistan, C.2 Albania, C.3 Algeria, etc. In seems that in most cases files dating from before 1982 are missing. This is most apparent for countries which had many exchanges with the IBI, such as Italy, France, Spain and the United States of America, for example. Files for those countries represent the bulk of the series.

Délégations permanentes

Subseries consists of a small amount of notifications or full powers instruments for delegates of the Permanent Delegations to UNESCO.

Subseries consists of files related to the preparation and roll-out of the Romania and Togo Peace Games. Files include evaluations and feasibility studies for the Games; correspondence, including with Member States; General Conference and Executive Board documents related to the Games; programmes; memos; sponsorship correspondence; as well as photographs from the Romania games. There is some duplication with other series.

Fonds spécial pour le développement économique (Nations Unies)

Subseries consists of agreements signed between UNESCO, the Special Fund or UNDP, and member countries. There are also subcontracts between UNESCO as the executing agency of a project and private or national entities. Other technical assistance agreements may be arranged under subseries by country. UNESCO should only have signed amendments or adjustments to agreements that had an impact on its role as executing agency.
