Correspondance relative aux questions des relations universitaires, début de la Conférence permanente, Etudiants

La sous-série est constituée par la correspondance de l'IICI concernant la coopération universitaire, le début de la Conférence permanente et les questions relatives aux étudiants. Elle correspond aux travaux de la Section des Relations universitaires de l’IICI (1926-1946).

La sous-série est constituée par la correspondance de l'IICI relative aux questions scientifiques, aux bibliothèques et congrès de bibliothécaires, bibliographie, documentation, congrès internationaux et archives. Elle correspond aux travaux de la Section des Relations scientifiques, ou "Sous-Commission des Sciences et de Bibliographie" (à partir de 1928).

Les différentes subsubseries proviennent de l’activité de cette Section. Elles témoignent de l’activité de la Section dans le domaine scientifique : organisation ou participation à des congrès scientifiques (DII et D.IV), liens avec des institutions scientifiques du monde entier (D.VI), projets de bibliographies internationales dans le domaine de la physique (D.I.), des mathématiques, de la chimie, de la biologie (D.VIII), travaux sur l’Index Bibliographicus publié par la SDN (D.VIII), projet d’unification du format des publications scientifiques (projet de Marie Curie) (D.VII), projets d’annuaires scientifiques (D.VII), collaboration des musées scientifiques (D.VII).

Le domaine des bibliothèques et des archives est également couvert par l’activité de la Section : organisation ou participation à des congrès de bibliothécaires (D.III, D.VIII), projet de création d’un système de prêt international entre bibliothèques (D.III), établissement d’un guide des échanges pour 56 pays en 1939 (D.V), questions relatives aux bibliothèques populaires et à leur rôle social (D.III), projet d’établissement d’une fiche bibliographique internationale (D.III), questions relatives à la construction et aménagement des bibliothèques (D.III), projet de création d’un service international de renseignements à l’usage du public (D.III), étude de la qualité des encres et papiers (proposition Jules Destrée) (D.IX).

Correspondance relative aux Commissions nationales, Délégués d'Etats et Affaires générales de la Direction

La sous-série est constituée par la correspondance entre l’IICI et les Commissions nationales de Coopération intellectuelle, les Délégués des Etats auprès de l’IICI et la correspondance de l’IICI au sujet de son fonctionnement général.

Correspondance de la Section des Sciences historiques et sociales

La sous-série organique DD provient, comme la sous-série organique D, des activités de la Section des Relations scientifiques et de la Bibliographie. Cette sous-série contient des dossiers concernant les "sciences historiques et sociales", mais aussi des dossiers relatifs aux questions scientifiques : organisation du travail scientifique (DD.I), correspondance relative au "Bulletin des Relations scientifiques" (DD.IV), à la bibliographie scientifique (DD.VIII), projet d’un Office central de collaboration scientifique internationale (DD.X).

Dans le domaine des sciences humaines, la sous-série organique DD contient des correspondances relatives aux questions de "langues primitives en danger d’extinction" (DD.II), d’unification des nomenclatures douanières (DD.III), de vérification de l’écriture (proposition Tanakadate) (DD.III), correspondances échangées avec des sociétés d’histoire (DD.VI), collection américaine ethnographique et historique (DD.X), liens de la Section avec la Commission internationale des Sciences historiques (DD.XI), participation à des congrès scientifiques internationaux dans les domaines de l’archéologie, la linguistique, l’histoire, la philologie slave, la sociologie, l’histoire des religions, la phonétique, le service social, la géographie, les questions rurales (DD.VIII).

Les travaux de bibliographie occupent une bonne part des travaux de la Section : bibliographie romane (DD.II), de littérature roumaine (DD.VIII), de sciences sociales (DD.VIII), de géographie (DD.VIII), de linguistique (DD.VIII), annuaire international de bibliographie historique (DD.VIII), liaison avec les comités nationaux de bibliographie scientifique (DD.VIII), carte bibliographique (DD.VIII), lettres et circulaires aux éditeurs de revues de linguistique (DD.VIII), bibliographie orientale (DD.VIII).
La Section des Relations scientifiques et de la Bibliographie s’occupe également de la question des archives. La sous-série organique DD renferme donc les dossiers de correspondance relatifs aux réunions d’experts organisés par la Section pour la "coordination internationale des archives" entre 1931 et 1933 (DD.IX), une étude sur la question de l’accessibilité des archives (DD.IX), deux dossiers sur la question de l’unification de la terminologie archivistique (DD.IX) et de l’échange de conférenciers (DD.IX).

Plenary Meetings

Subseries consists of agendas and reports of the plenary meetings of the Conference of Allied Ministers from 1942 to 1945. It is arranged in chronological order.

General series

Subseries consists of official CAME documents issued with the general series code AME/A. The documents pertain to all areas of CAME's activities. They are arranged in order of the document code which is also roughly chronological.

Books and Periodicals Commission

Subseries consists of agendas and summary records of the meetings of CAME's Books and Periodicals Commission. It is arranged with agendas first in chronological order, followed by the summary records in chronological order. Documents from the subcommittees of the Books and Periodicals Commission are described as subseries onto themselves.

Executive Bureau

Subseries consists of agendas and summary reports of the meetings of the CAME Executive Bureau from 1943 to 1945. The subseries is arranged with the agendas in chronological order, followed by the summary records in chronological order.

Science Commission files

Subseries consists of correspondence files of the CAME Science Commission. The files pertain to CAME's work in general and to the Commission's work in studying needs for scientific equipment and preparing inventories. The files were reorganized by the Natural Sciences Section of the UNESCO Secretariat according to a numeric classification scheme. There are also some records of the Natural Sciences Section that were added to the files.

Open Meetings

Subseries consists of an agenda and reports from the two open meetings held between CAME and the delegation for the United States of America in April 1944. Documents are arranged in chronological order.

Finance and Establishment Committee

Subseries consists of agendas and summary records of the meetings of the CAME Finance and Establishment Committee. The documents are arranged with the agendas first in chronological order, followed by the summary records in chronological order.

Executive Committee Documents

Subseries consists of official documents issued by or relating to the Executive Committee of the Preparatory Commission. The documents were issued with the code Prep.Com./Exec.Com./ and a sequential number. The subseries is arranged in this numeric order.

Circular letters

Subseries consists of Circular letters issued by the Preparatory Commission. The letters have the document code CL/. The subseries is arranged in order of the document code.

Plenary Meetings

Subseries consists of verbatim and summary records of the Plenary Meetings of the Preparatory Commission from the first to sixth session. The documents have codes (Prep.Com./SR, Prep.Com./VR, or similar but with the session number included) and are arranged by this code and in chronological order.

Press Conference

Subseries consists of one document with a transcribed speech from a Preparatory Commission press conference held 18 October 1946. The speech was made by M. Montagnier, Head Counsellor in charge of the First Session of the General Conference and the Month of UNESCO. The speech is about the Month of UNESCO - the intellectual and artistic exhibitions thqt were to take place at the same time as the General Conference.

Joint Executive Committee and Conference of Allied Ministers of Education Meetings

Subseries consists of documents from a meeting held 18 January 1946 between the Preparatory Commission Executive Committee and the Conference of Allied Ministers of Education (CAME). The transfer of certain activities of CAME to UNESCO was discussed at the meeting. The documents have the code Prep.Com./Exec.Com;/SR of Joint Meeting.

Natural Sciences Committee documents and meetings

Subseries consists of documents issued by the Preparatory Commission's Natural Sciences Committee, as well as the records of the Committee's meetings. Staff circulars

This collection contains speeches and addresses of the Director General of UNESCO reproduced as Secretariat documents. There are also speeches as manuscripts, appeals and messages, some interventions and statements in meetings, also occasional interviews, in general, texts delivered or intended to be delivered orally.

Editorial Committee of the Study on Fundamental Education

Subseries consists of the documents of the Editorial Committee responsible for editing the material gathered from world authorities in fundamental education in advance of the First Session of the General Conference of UNESCO. The resulting publication explained UNESCO's suggested programme of action in the field of fundamental education. The Committee's documents have no document code but are arranged roughly in reverse chronological order.

Committee on Libraries, Museums, Publications and Special Projects documents and meetings

Subseries consists of documents issued by the Preparatory Commission's Committee on Libraries, Museums, Publications and Special Projects. It also includes the records of the Committee's meetings. Press releases

Subseries consists of press releases issued by the Preparatory Commission. They have the code Press/ or Prep.Com./Pub.Inf./Press. There are also documents with no code. The subseries is arranged in order of the document code.

Contract between UNESCO and the Director-General

This subseries consists only of contract for Torres Bodet. It was registered as a legal instrument (or special document) by Archives staff, whereas other contracts can be found in personnel files.

UNESCO Courier

The original UNESCO Courier was a monthly printed magazine published between 1947 to 2001. It was published in more than thirty languages including braille. The magazine is written journalistically and each issue looks into a single subject from different angles. From 2002 to 2005 the UNESCO Courier was followed by the New Courier, published in three languages.

The fond includes all exemplars of

  • The UNESCO Courier (published from 1948 - 2001) and
  • The The New Courier (published from May 2002 - November 2005).

Messages, discours, allocutions, etc.

Subseries consists of print or reprinted copies of speeches or messages made at significant moments or by renown personalities.

Histoire de l'IBI

Cette série de documents, provenant du fonds documentaire de l'IBI, était contenue dans un carton portant l'inscription : "Histoire de l'IBI".

L'ensemble contient tous types de documents relatifs à la genèse de l'IBI, à partir de 1951, puis relatifs au Comité constitutif et du Centre international de calcul provisoire. Les instruments juridiques émanants des pouvoirs politiques italiens (accord de siège, journal officiel, décret, etc.) sont également inclus dans ces dossiers. Enfin, on relève des mémorandums récapitulatifs de la situation de l'Organisation et de ses perspectives, ainsi qu'un mémoire de DEA, documentant sur l'histoire de l'IBI depuis sa création, jusque dans les années 1980.
