English transcription: Bosscha Observatory of the University of Indonesia. Detail of the 24-inch double refractor which consists of two telescopes which have separate objectives lenses and are mounted parallel in one large tube. One of these telescopes is intended for visual, the other for photographic work. The human eye is more sensitive to yellow light than to blue, in contrast to an ordinary photographic plate. As a lens cannot bring light of various colours into a single focus, it is not possible to use the same optics for both photographic and visual purposes.
