Sur la façade, quatre colosses d'une hauteur d'environ 20 mètres, représentant Ramsès II (1290-1223 avant J.C.). L'ensemble, dont la profondeur est de 63 m., est entièrement taillé dans le roc. Le Pronaos, ou Hall d'entrée, mesure 18m. de profondeur et comprend huit piliers osiriaques représentant Ramsès II sous l'aspect du dieu Osiris. Les parois du temple sont couvertes de bas-reliefs représentant des scènes de la vie de ce roi. Sur la photo, détail d'un des colosses du Pronaos. Chaque colosse mesure environ 8 mètres.

Following the construction of the Aswan High Dam, the monuments of the island of Philae are permanently flooded to a third of their height and are subject to daily fluctuations in the water level which eat away their foundations and threaten to bring them down to ruins.
