UNESCO has just had an offical medal struck to commemorate the thousandth anniversary of the birth of the great physician, scholar and philosopher of the Islamic World, AVICENNA, born in the year 370 of the Hegira (980 A.D.) in Afshana near Dukhara. This medal is the work of the sculptor-medallist Victor Douek, specialist in Arabic calligraphy. The obverse is inspired by a miniature appearing in a seventeeth century Turkish manuscript ; the reverse side reproduces a thought of Avicenna.

A World Music Day was proclaimed on the occasion of the creation of this Fund at which time, each year, a benefit concert will be organized. English transcription: On the occasion of UNESCO's 20th anniversary a ceremony was organised by the Rector, Mr Jean Roche, and the Board of the University of Paris at the Sorbonne. Mr Pompidou, the French Prime Minister, was the honorary chairman and Mr Christian Fouchet, French Minister of Education and Head of the French delegation to the 14th session of the UNESCO General Conference, as well as other numerous personalities as present.

Jean Roche, ont organisé, ce soir, une cérémonie à la Sorbonne, placée sous la présidence d'honneur de M. Georges Pompidou, Premier Ministre. Mr Christian Fouchet, Ministre de l'Education Nationale et chef de la délégation française à la 14e session de la Conférence générale de l'UNESCO, ainsi que de nombreuses personnalités assistaient à cette cérémonie.
