Archival history

Since the beginning, the UNESCO Archives not only preserved the records which had been produced by the Organization, but also tried to collect as much information as possible about the Organization, its activities and its history. In the first 40 years of its existence, lists of publications and articles on UNESCO have been established and copies of them have been stored in the Archives. Some private fonds were also collected to complement the official records. Later the growing dimension of information, research work and publications about the organization made it impossible to follow, receive and preserve all of these works in the Archives. Yet, some material about UNESCO, especially historical research, is available via the Archives.
