Rules and/or conventions used

Following RAD Rule 24.1A, authorized form of name comes from its most common form in published sources. 'IOC' is also how the Commission is entered in the UNESDOC catalogue. Units within UNESCO usually follow the convention indicating the parent body (ie. UNESCO. Natural Sciences Sector). However, as per Article 1.1 of the IOC's Statutes, IOC has functional autonomy within UNESCO. The UNESCO Terminology database term is UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.
